Syngenta launches wet ear mechanization in seed production location in 5000 acres

Nandyal, 28 January 2020: Syngenta has developed a unique program to mechanize key corn seed production activities in order to offset for the lack of availability of labor at peak operations. By incorporating wet ear harvesting and dehusking equipment, the harvesting process is reduced to less than 1.5 hours per acre.

To mark this, an event was organized in the village of Nandyal on Tuesday, 28 January 2020. Mr P Brahmananda Reddy, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Nandyal Constituency graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Mr P Brahmananda Reddy, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (representing farmers in Nandyal, Bhadrachalam, Eluru and Rajahmundry) said, “the technology provided by Syngenta would make farmers aware of the importance of mechanization. While speaking at a session organized for farmers in Nandyal, he praised Syngenta's efforts in the development of large-scale corn hybrid seed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh”. Mr. Reddy while addressing the farmers also urged them to adopt modern technology offered by the government and industry.

Over the past couple of years Syngenta has introduced detasseling, sowing and spraying equipment in the area. A special harvester was introduced for large-scale corn seed production in 2019, and 800 acres were harvested in Bhadrachalam and Rajahmundry. This year, in 2020, the team plans to harvest at least 4000 acres, mentioned Senior Officials of Syngenta.

Farmers from and around Nandyal and Proddutur were present at the event.
