Syngenta launches 2nd phase of I-SAFE Program in Madhya Pradesh
Dhar/Khargone, September 02.2020: The safe and responsible use of crop protection products help safeguard the overall health of farmers, their family and promotes sustainable agriculture in the long run. Being committed to encouraging safe and responsible use of these crop protection products, Syngenta India, a leading agriculture company launched the second phase of its flagship I-SAFE Program in Madhya Pradesh after successfully training over 10, 000 farmers and counselling 2000 spray-men on safe use of chemicals last year.
I-SAFE (Inculcating Safety Awareness for Farmer Empowerment) program 2020 has been launched in Dhar and Khargone districts with the help of district officials. The I-SAFE Awareness Van was also flagged off by Mr Sukhlal Alawa, Sub Division Agriculture Officer (SADO), Manawar Tehsil, Dhar; in the presence of Dr Dharvendra Kumarm, Senior Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Manawar; and other officials from Syngenta, Agriculture Department and IRFT (International Resources for Fairer Trade) which will be Syngenta’s implementing partner for I-SAFE in the state.
Dr K C Ravi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Syngenta India Limited, said, “Syngenta is dedicated to encouraging safe use of crop protection products through efficient stewardship, as safe use of these products will ensure safety and health of our farming community. To ensure agricultural & crop protection practices are undertaken in a healthy, hygienic and most importantly, in a safe manner so that any untoward exposure incidents can be minimised, our team will be continuously working in the districts to create awareness.”
Doctor's awareness and Training Program on "Recognition and Treatment of Pesticide Exposure" which aims on providing training to doctors on Pesticide Exposure Recognition and Treatment Principles, general principles on stabilizing a poisoned patient and coping with basic treatment during instances of poisoning was organised with Dr VV Pillay, an eminent toxicologist from Cochin, Kerala. Over 91 doctors participated in the awareness program.
This year Syngenta is planning to train 10000 farmers and also counsel over 1000 spray-men on health & safe use of chemicals. Public awareness campaigns will also be organized through the two I-SAFE awareness vans covering more than 500 villages in both the districts in a period of one month, Dr Ravi added further.
