An estimated 300 million people in India still need access to reliable electricity, and our solar electrification initiative helps to achieve a vision of universal access to electricity in rural areas of the country.
Many rural villages in India still lack electrification, solar energy is the most cost - effective and technologically viable solution for the electrification needs of remote and inaccessible villages which are far from the grid.
Solar Electrification is a smart and green way of providing electricity, we started this initiative by installing 1250 solar street lights in more than 75 Gram Panchayats in Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer and Jaisalmer districts of Rajasthan.
Solar lamps require less maintenance than conventional street lights and they rarely overheat. Also since these lamps do not have external wires, the risk of accidents is minimized. The social benefits of this intervention are increased educational opportunities, as students can have more study hours, ensures safety and security at night, it also reduces the use of unhealthy kerosene lamps indoors, which improves health conditions. This intervention has increased basic comfort of the communities and has helped women and children feel safe and secure.
In Rojadi village of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan district, we have installed a dedicated solar power generation system that meets the electricity requirements of the entire school. With access to solar electricity, the learning outcomes at school will be improved. The excess power is used for street lights in the village. Through this initiative our aim is to help the rural poor leapfrog into the mainstream of development.
