| Syngenta Foundation India – Making a Difference |
|
The Syngenta Foundation India (SFI) is established with a purpose to help farmers adapt to newer ways of agricultural production and improve yields. SFI is convinced that unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of both small-scale farmers and rural service providers is a critical factor for economic growth.
|
| |
| The Syngenta Foundation India contributes to addressing this challenge by supporting sustainable agricultural projects that would lead to long-term productivity and income generation for the farmers. The major emphasis is on three pillars of agricultural sustenance. |
| |
| Irrigation & Water Management in Rain fed Areas |
|
| Water is a critical constraint to raising agricultural productivity. Increasing productivity and reducing risks of crop failure through improving water conservation and usage, using drip irrigation, intercropping and sustainable land management systems |
| |
| Agronomic Inputs |
|
| Increasing agricultural productivity also depends on the efficient delivery of several other inputs. Increasing the ability of crops to cope with drought and the ravages of pests and diseases by breeding varieties adapted to local environmental and social conditions that suit local needs are some of the areas that SFI concentrates on. |
| |
| Information & Support |
|
| Linking the farmers with information critical for their livelihood, helping them to work more efficiently & sell their crops at better prices are some of the services SFI provides to farmers. |
| |
Syngenta Foundation India has been working at the grass root levels in villages to support and educate farmers for better utilization of their lands and getting better yields by using scientific techniques. Started with the aim of assisting poor farmers in disadvantaged regions of the country in raising their agricultural productivity and securing livelihood, the Foundation, now in its third year, has moved ahead to play a bigger and more meaningful role. |
